Buying Gold Certificates?

Are there any places that sell these at a reasonable price. I need one for educational purposes.

PS I wasn't sure where to post this.

Re: Buying Gold Certificates?

Why Gold certificates - if all you need is something to demonstrate that US paper notes were once convertible/backed by tangible precious metal, a Silver certificate, or a series 1950 Federal Reserve Note in any denomination, might be more easily and cheaply had. My local coin dealer once gave me a 5 dollar series 1950 note in change, which I keep in my wallet (separate from the newer others, so it won't be spent!) for instant use/demonstration when discussing money/fiat with the (as yet) uninformed.:wavey:

Re: Buying Gold Certificates?

I hear you - I have three $10 certificates printed in the same decade, one is a gold certificate, one is a silver certificate, and one is a FRN. I pair the gold certificate with a pre-33 $10 gold piece, pair the silver certificate with some silver dollars, and the FRN stays by itself. This is a great tool to teach people who have never heard of this before, it really opens their eyes. Even bank employees and tellers have never seen money like this before.

Honestly, ebay would be your best bet for a nice note for a cheap price. Common circulated $10 gold certs should run between $75 - $100. Or just try the coin dealers in your area, someone should have one.

"Notes" are for fools.

Real men take "Certified".

Unfortunately, they quit issuing certified to the commoners years ago...

Only the bankers demand and get them from the government these days....

I must say that is a really good idea and a quick and easy way to educate someone.

Have you found anything?

I can check my local for you if you like. I remember seeing some "paper"
there.

Copy one off the computer with a color printer - it's worth about the same IMVHO.

Then::signs14:
Show that.

I'm low on funds right now. So it will have to wait. I sure don't want to pay a lot.
